Edmond Otis has practiced karate since 1967 and is internationally known as a competitor, instructor, coach, and judge. Otis is acclaimed for his innovative and dynamic teaching style, and is considered by many to be one of the premier karate instructors of his generation.
He is the Director of Martial Arts at the University of California, Riverside, the largest collegiate martial arts program in the United States, and is Chairman and North American Chief Instructor of the American JKA Karate Association - International (AJKA-I). He is also the Chairman of the Shihankai (Council of Masters) of the American Shotokan Karate Alliance (ASKA). His home dojo is located in Carlsbad, CA, providing world-class instruction to the residents of Carlsbad, Oceanside, North County, and the greater San Diego community.
A 7th Dan (degree) black belt, Otis travels extensively, conducting seminars for instructors and students that focus on karate as a rigorous and demanding physical art, an effective and decisive means of self-defense, an exciting competitive sport, and a philosophy of life.
Otis is also a licensed psychotherapist, speaker, and consultant. As such, he coaches private clients, groups, and organizations to successfully apply martial arts principles and strategies to a broad range of life's professional, personal, and interpersonal challenges.
