What is CVV?

The Card Verification Value (CVV) is a number printed on credit cards to serve as an extra safeguard for your credit card purchases. Some card issuers refer to this number as the 'Card Verification Value', 'Card Verification Number', 'Card Verification Code', 'CVV', 'CVV2', 'CVN', 'Personal Security Code'. This number is not embossed on the card and hence not printed on receipts, etc., making it much harder for anyone other than the cardholder to know the code. It is the last 3 numerical digits printed in the signature strip on the back of your Discover Card, Mastercard, or Visa credit card.
